Role Overview:

The Development Director plays a critical role in overseeing and implementing fundraising strategies to support FOA. This role also involves developing and executing fundraising campaigns, cultivating donor relationships, managing grant applications, and working alongside the CEO to expand and diversify FOA’s sponsorships and donor base. Overall, money raised is expected to grow with help from the Development Director working closely with the CEO to improve FOA’s fundraising abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet revenue goals

  • Cultivate relationships: with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations

  • Grant seeking + writing: Manage grant applications and reporting processes

  • Fundraising Events: Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns

  • Generate New Ideas: Create compelling fundraising materials and communications

  • Monitor and Evaluate: fundraising performance metrics

  • Stay informed: about trends in philanthropy and fundraising best practices

  • Raise Awareness: Help forge new relationships to build our organization’s visibility, impact and financial resources

  • Organization: Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail

  • Strong + Firm Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Keep things Confidential: Ability to maintain confidentiality about members of our board, our organization’s internal operations and handle sensitive information

  • Tech Savvy: Must be tech-savvy

  • Great Personality: Have good energy and be a social butterfly

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Take initiative and actively create new ways to grow FOA

  • Grant Writing: Knowledge of grant writing processes and donor stewardship best practices

  • Development Experience: Prior experience in nonprofit fundraising or development role

  • Relationship Building: Strong relationship-building skills with donors and corporate sponsors

Time Commitment: 

The Development Director Board position requires attendance at regular board meetings hosted monthly (in person or virtually) and additional time for tasks and planning, averaging approximately 10-15 hours per month.
