Rehoming
Your Cat(s)
Feeling the need to surrender your cat(s)?
We understand that life circumstances can change unexpectedly, leading to difficult decisions regarding pet ownership.
If you find yourself unable to provide the necessary care for your cat, please consider the following factors before submitting a surrender application.
Can you return your cat to the rescue, shelter or individual from whom you originally adopted your pet from? Organizations typically offer support in rehoming the animal or may accept the pet back for rehoming themselves. Similarly, many rescue organizations including ours stipulate in their adoption agreements that the pet must be returned to them, regardless of how much time has elapsed since the adoption.
Moving can be a daunting experience, especially when it comes to our beloved pets. If you find yourself in a situation where your landlord prohibits pets or the travel distance seems overwhelming for your cat, don’t lose hope. Many rental homes and apartments are available that welcome furry companions. Continuing your search may lead you to a perfect place where you and your pet can thrive together.
Additionally, if your cat experiences anxiety during long car trips, consulting with your veterinarian might provide some solutions. They may recommend medications like gabapentin to help ease your pet’s stress and make the transition smoother. Remember, your pet’s comfort is just as important as your own during this time of change.
Going through a financial hardship and struggling to provide care for your cat(s)? We all go through hard times. Research local pet pantries and finacial assistance programs. You can also reach out to us via email at hello@furballsofatlanta.org for assistance. We may be able to help with pet food and supplies.
Have you tried rehoming your pet yourself and charging a rehoming fee? Platforms like Nextdoor and Adopt-a-Pet are recommended to assist your rehoming journey.
Admission Policy
Cats are admitted based on availability and assessed on a case-by-case basis. If your cat is accepted and surrendered to us, we will take on the responsibility as the new owner and caregiver. Health and temperament assessments will be conducted upon acceptance.
